I haven't beaded since I got home from housesitting. It kind of feels like I'm in Beader's Anonymous right now, admitting this (but instead of being addicted I'm admitting to some serious slacking). I did start a new cuff this weekend, the <i>very day our power went out</i>-- <b>is it a sign?!</b> Probably not. So as soon as I finish something, I'll post pictures of it. I have been doing TONS of sewing- quilting, and decorative fun stuff, and some clothing too. It's been a solid month of 100-degrees-plus heat that is only just letting up this week, and I am super excited about it and praying that we are past the worst of the heat! So are the pups, who have been cooped up most days, walk-less and desolate. I can't leave you without any pictures at all, so here's what I've got:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiySycjkXGZaxi0mKP2_Yj_PAK3QNkAkPbFXKylbLbkjdxGW-TY6I1RNYrh6d9g5Hj-oEtO6WMdyyqZ7m1HQqO-TT2k-TYj_RoBsBFs30HSpUX0WN3eSIz4O8zWsKNTIcrkxE95JaK0-zU/s1600/DeadZilla.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="259" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiySycjkXGZaxi0mKP2_Yj_PAK3QNkAkPbFXKylbLbkjdxGW-TY6I1RNYrh6d9g5Hj-oEtO6WMdyyqZ7m1HQqO-TT2k-TYj_RoBsBFs30HSpUX0WN3eSIz4O8zWsKNTIcrkxE95JaK0-zU/s320/DeadZilla.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i>No, she doesn't want any kisses.</i></div><br />
Lindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14122811731025796369noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159286806964934003.post-25314270176224480382011-06-11T12:36:00.002-04:002011-06-11T12:39:41.558-04:00For You, I Worked While I Was Away Technically, I'm still away. I am dogsitting/housesitting and not getting nearly as much work done as I thought. Apparently- and feel free to quote me on this- it's way more excellent to go shopping at outlet malls than to sit and watch TV while you bead. So if it comes down to that choice for you, I want you to know that I'm predicting a very outlet-heavy outcome.<br />
<br />
It's really just that you'll need to be around humans every once in awhile. That's always nice.<br />
<br />
So here goes:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiz_OhfLkra_QVZvAm6pWHQgMOg7fXbWfMDjwJPNHcMQ9iIFwQ2F-sYw6QGQMBMNWL467kA1I4M7tqL5EqP7e2c7t9RUSOkLCsQKzhe2s84Ure9nqkUsnmWrkF2-Yy5xEGZ-j_NILJ8FAo/s1600/RainbowCollar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiz_OhfLkra_QVZvAm6pWHQgMOg7fXbWfMDjwJPNHcMQ9iIFwQ2F-sYw6QGQMBMNWL467kA1I4M7tqL5EqP7e2c7t9RUSOkLCsQKzhe2s84Ure9nqkUsnmWrkF2-Yy5xEGZ-j_NILJ8FAo/s320/RainbowCollar.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i>Accidentally Rainbow Collar</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i><br />
</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here's the finished collar! In my opinion, it's slightly less crazy-town than when it was unfinished, but I can't tell you why, exactly. I've worn it a few times! With something solid-colored it looks... a little like WHOA LOOK AT THAT THING. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Okay so, remember that time after FeeJee Mermaid when I was like, <i>"I'll never do a filled-in netting stitch again!" </i>It turns out that I am a liar and a glutton for punishment. Or maybe that my memory of how annoying it is didn't last long enough.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinzhyy2p1P4EqdY6zOhefOND-DQ5ZIXoz0Q3fanAF_ee-qnvG2WmTQISlz4zQhxRdovI05q4yjSXcXtaJ0CrsDfVd_0_oLm_oT5PzHaIGJ1ssBDj0zzQ-XzRZxIlIoPv82iWnc7MshCaA/s1600/Mooncuff2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinzhyy2p1P4EqdY6zOhefOND-DQ5ZIXoz0Q3fanAF_ee-qnvG2WmTQISlz4zQhxRdovI05q4yjSXcXtaJ0CrsDfVd_0_oLm_oT5PzHaIGJ1ssBDj0zzQ-XzRZxIlIoPv82iWnc7MshCaA/s320/Mooncuff2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now that I look at these pics together, I'm thinking the cuff was sort of the antithesis to the collar. Like maybe the collar was color overload and I needed something desaturated to work on.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEOZuuueyI0sSU9h7WmkFp624-naep6Q6ULkDuUlmDsUqGDK3FmRwxeUf1c4otcifyKcesKQQ_GPT71rDjE-F0FASU_JFH8mh_bToLLMjMgPfF0xlraeiS_-C36CLP6_-aY9R1xzDf0j4/s1600/Mooncuff.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEOZuuueyI0sSU9h7WmkFp624-naep6Q6ULkDuUlmDsUqGDK3FmRwxeUf1c4otcifyKcesKQQ_GPT71rDjE-F0FASU_JFH8mh_bToLLMjMgPfF0xlraeiS_-C36CLP6_-aY9R1xzDf0j4/s320/Mooncuff.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And pay no attention to how raggedy it looks, it will look much cleaner-edged when it's finished. You know that, I don't know why I'm telling you that. I started this last week, and worked on it pretty steadily for a few days, then I started to go nuts and took a break from it. I should have remembered. What I was remembering was how cool the filled-in-netting looks. I'm wishing now that i had used a navy instead of the gray underneath the moon, but there is no way I would rip out what I've got done. I'd sooner rip out all my hair. So I will finish it! And it will be okay. I don't actually know what this one is going to be named, either. I've been doing that a lot lately! I just wanted to use that moon! Ha!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I think all of my pics were kind of blurry today, so pretend you don't notice.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Yours in love and beads,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Lindsay</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Lindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14122811731025796369noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159286806964934003.post-64760273359510058612011-05-26T16:39:00.001-04:002011-05-26T16:41:30.077-04:00It's a Fabulous Rainbow Collar, Accidentally So I started my first collar. I wanted it to be fun and bright and lots of warm colors, because I tend to use cool colors and I wanted to branch out a bit. I wanted it to be kind of weighty and substantial and an interesting shape, and I thought I might wear it to a wedding with a solid color dress (I've got a purple one it might look good with!). Also, I had no real game plan on this one- I just started beading and did whatever felt best at the time. The current result of all of that is that I am now the proud beader of a particularly sassy-looking unfinished rainbow necklace. Rainbows are nice, but that was definitely not what I was going for. I'm still happy with it and I think it will still look good with my dress, but it just feels a little yikes when I look at it. Raaaaiiiiinbooowwwww! Maybe next time I will think up a color scheme first. It's just so hard to narrow it down! I LOVE ALL COLORS!!! Hear that, colors?! I can't say no to you.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBqbXGwndXOJ1_t9UirP1qkAfMWg1qJM3yrG5xjxRmr5EtSsCzEaUlZEzb3etdneObtcxB3oamtwfH__AyYcc0Rd6_vVxr8UOH7xTCAKicQPOzkP9YhovqXyxYTkuHWkYuHWX_4KkbVhk/s1600/Collar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBqbXGwndXOJ1_t9UirP1qkAfMWg1qJM3yrG5xjxRmr5EtSsCzEaUlZEzb3etdneObtcxB3oamtwfH__AyYcc0Rd6_vVxr8UOH7xTCAKicQPOzkP9YhovqXyxYTkuHWkYuHWX_4KkbVhk/s320/Collar.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
In other news, this month has been crazy. Life will continue to be crazy until July-ish. I will survive! It's been (and will be) birthdays and dog problems and weddings (and showers) and tornado warnings and graduations and housesitting. I'm excited for it to all be overrrrr. It has been fun, though, mostly; I feel like I've lived a few months worth of events all crammed into one. Zilla has a spinal injury, which is very not fun. We don't know what happened, but it will be a few weeks of no jumping, running, or being bowled over by Henry (all of those have still happened, just less than usual), accompanied by steroids and pain meds. If there's further damage, it could possibly mean surgery. The worst case is paralysis, so we cringe every time something happens. We spent a whole day earlier this week going to the e-vet and then the regular vet after a sleepless night. I cried a lot. She's our baby. So to keep her from jumping, we've been making big pallets on the floor and sitting with her down here at the coffee table. We also have to keep stuff on the furniture and keep the doors to the other rooms closed. I've been beading a lot and watching the X-Files. I like to tell my husband that the dogs and I love sci-fi and Lifetime movies, but the truth is they just sleep and fart the whole time. I know this is only barely bead-related, but it feels good to write it all down! Sorry, beading audience! At least I'm beading through the stress. <br />
<br />
Lastly, I'll probably be incommunicado for a few weeks, but I'll think of you often and I will bead like crazy. Promise.<br />
<br />
With lots of stressed-out love,<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><b><i>Mystery Cuff, in progress</i></b></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">So because this cuff has no mythical origin (and duh, all the other ones do! They're magical!) it has no name. It was just worked around the center piece of vintage costume jewelry, which belonged to my great-grandmother. I have a bag full of pieces I want to try to use! Not all of them are as pretty, like, say, the pieces from the 60s and 70s. I dig things from that era as much as the next vintage-digging-gal, but the costume jewelry can be a little... garish. And I'm having to decide how to attach things like clip-on earrings, brooches, and other things that have backs and pointy parts. This piece was one of a pair of clip-on earrings and I just sort of wiggled the clip with my tiny jewelry pliers until it broke off. Extra-precise work.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><b><i>Mystery cuff, modeled beautifully, probably to remain forever unnamed</i></b></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Anyway, I basically just made it for fun, for myself. I have an idea for a cuff that is meant to be ghostly, and I'd like to use similar, but lighter colors. So this was kind of a nice practice run to see how all of those might come together. I did find that I need more greys. That's the end!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">The End!</div>Lindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14122811731025796369noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159286806964934003.post-46635050673283521932011-04-18T15:00:00.006-04:002011-04-18T15:36:56.462-04:00You'll Never Believe it, Because it's an Unbelievable Thing!<div style="text-align: center;">Atlantis... is.... FINISHED!!! BUM BUM BUMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!! Cue the dramatic drumbeat followed by some intense orchestral music, my friends! I have finished the unfinishable. Spellcheck would have you know unfinishable isn't really a word, but I am here to tell you that it is. When I'd completely finished- knotted the last string and all that- I put it on and showed it to my husband, who said "Oh hey! That looks great. You've been working on that for a long time, right?" to which I replied "UGHHHHH FOR FOREVER" and he said, "Yeah! Like more than a month, right?"<br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">....<br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"> I'm fairly sure I responded with something between the meanest glare and the shockiest shocked face. 'Cause no, it's been a little more than a month. I searched the blog and realized I started Atlantis in <span style="font-style: italic;">September</span>!!! Pretty crazy, right? He may be worse at estimation than I am. It's not perfectly symmetrical, which I expected, but I think it looks good. It's less impressive on the wrist, which I also expected, because it's only the center third that shows. I didn't take a picture of that though. I could do another Photoshop of it, if you need a visual! Because we all know I am an excellent Photoshopper!<br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Tell me what you think!!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"> Then I decided to try to make a feather pendant. It was... fairly successful, I think. It looks good on, and I tried to take pictures of that, but I like to take my pictures in sunlight instead of incandescent if I can, and that morning light coupled with a lack of makeup was making for some seriously unlikeable photos. Ick. So now it's hard to tell the size of the pendant; I don't think it's as big as it looks in the pics. I probably should have put something next to it for scale.... I did not do that.<br /></div><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7k2OwyVf7Hl2EJZoIru1p0g6_tVqAQBqgL0GyQBDawAeJhnV5aQIOXxCpuZUSUwFPT2Al2f8asFRHXNUS4gFv_26v7n4IvU5xUSppEqQ8EKEFPw3hLl-G7THxG1662TsyIZRh5GVfIaU/s1600/Feather.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7k2OwyVf7Hl2EJZoIru1p0g6_tVqAQBqgL0GyQBDawAeJhnV5aQIOXxCpuZUSUwFPT2Al2f8asFRHXNUS4gFv_26v7n4IvU5xUSppEqQ8EKEFPw3hLl-G7THxG1662TsyIZRh5GVfIaU/s320/Feather.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5597005272557072738" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEits9GPIgORqbwvFmowy0l3_UvQM8igfk-9SiFPBsL4jpc8pfdNrDMpuxIetqfupRfYq0zp-AFuRIWvs4inlsTCH5yhy8bGVkzz-KHxq_ihHEkrNLhLYyDstvuPIhs75J7DaGX16c7XVHQ/s1600/Featherclose.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEits9GPIgORqbwvFmowy0l3_UvQM8igfk-9SiFPBsL4jpc8pfdNrDMpuxIetqfupRfYq0zp-AFuRIWvs4inlsTCH5yhy8bGVkzz-KHxq_ihHEkrNLhLYyDstvuPIhs75J7DaGX16c7XVHQ/s320/Featherclose.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5597005264920001682" border="0" /></a>Lindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14122811731025796369noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159286806964934003.post-53596489200548802552011-02-10T12:27:00.004-05:002011-02-10T12:50:46.351-05:00A Request for Your Opinions on Medusa<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijkp5Gu0H1Z5EccHOy71K9AoskIt-qiqQ4cVPMcQ-Wr-YLA8dv72yWm_NcrgK2Mz_KXI5xJkUn2-iCjS-JgmbAPo5m8ECwNUMoyu1MY7hs7GfF1e8gn25FTDWyATBFRMDF5ACWOuWNNU8/s1600/Medusa2.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijkp5Gu0H1Z5EccHOy71K9AoskIt-qiqQ4cVPMcQ-Wr-YLA8dv72yWm_NcrgK2Mz_KXI5xJkUn2-iCjS-JgmbAPo5m8ECwNUMoyu1MY7hs7GfF1e8gn25FTDWyATBFRMDF5ACWOuWNNU8/s320/Medusa2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572116174923409330" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">This is the start of Medusa, and I am already having issues. I started in with the lime green, fading it out to gray moving outward from the center, but I hated it. I ripped it out. I have a color scheme worked out, but I'm not totally sure of it:<br /><br /><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOKadcgLZ86vMEgrYT6GBsrAq-Oc1FBkJ9ieUmwJkhJzrJIyzPaMREo17U0Rv-DKhoVN1O8j9wrV-BBSJ-bqYKLJSujEQeqFOSprpSDEfqxnuBgXXFsl45FGVyuBMq66AQ5BzBMnTRcLE/s1600/Medusa.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOKadcgLZ86vMEgrYT6GBsrAq-Oc1FBkJ9ieUmwJkhJzrJIyzPaMREo17U0Rv-DKhoVN1O8j9wrV-BBSJ-bqYKLJSujEQeqFOSprpSDEfqxnuBgXXFsl45FGVyuBMq66AQ5BzBMnTRcLE/s320/Medusa.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572116171422124786" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;">What do you think?? Silver, gray, dark green, and that iridescent purple-blue-red. And black, maybe. I don't know. When I think of Greek mythology, I tend to think of gold. I don't think anyone will see this color scheme and think Medusa. I attempted a snake-scale-like effect around the cab, and I do still want to do bead and thread "snakes" coming out from the center... I'm just afraid that there's just going to be so much going on! (Side note- Garden Ridge is awesome.) The idea is to make antique-looking pieces that could be mistaken for metal- I don't think I've got the technique down quite yet. Some of the things I made were more successful than others. But! The real reason I started the project was because, if I liked the look of these things, I thought I could make my own interesting cabs for my beadwork. Yeah. I have no idea why or what to do about it. It's not THAT humid! I also practiced my raised beadwork around the center, and aside from how it made a semi-wonky line, I like how it turned out.<br /><br /><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguxuF_ElNHtYh3HE19p53Fiw2wxvyjZoNhNwZV2xbsodtxySROH3PJUgMrHuQcwOOf85d-3_sT2TH0WLCvw3mn_j_dfUdYyKnsnGPFt4wqwc8RCGwZSfrD5haV-6zm-HeAa-biCIBmpyU/s1600/Mom2.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 314px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguxuF_ElNHtYh3HE19p53Fiw2wxvyjZoNhNwZV2xbsodtxySROH3PJUgMrHuQcwOOf85d-3_sT2TH0WLCvw3mn_j_dfUdYyKnsnGPFt4wqwc8RCGwZSfrD5haV-6zm-HeAa-biCIBmpyU/s320/Mom2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558135923004717730" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">And now for Osiris! I have to admit that I am super happy with it. It turned out better than I could've hoped. It's a little bit hard to get a feel for the colors from the photos; they're a bit more vivid in person, but they're all pretty under-worldly.<br /><br /><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_RX63rG2gwQQ_nDkLwaSky7sSe6-yethFhXktCBhVCQ9qVTVpbzTGuAr8DtRoTFGhVCHMam92MVHGPP00-0ZeqnJrzp1aw_GAyCmk7xDj9-nL8m_fdgilE2hC-M5RJ1j9iwCQbi8drPo/s1600/Osiris.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_RX63rG2gwQQ_nDkLwaSky7sSe6-yethFhXktCBhVCQ9qVTVpbzTGuAr8DtRoTFGhVCHMam92MVHGPP00-0ZeqnJrzp1aw_GAyCmk7xDj9-nL8m_fdgilE2hC-M5RJ1j9iwCQbi8drPo/s320/Osiris.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558135919200394338" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGHWjjcYnHRfXtxPIWZAZ4hEFaCHRo-uTEXeBDo-TiS6HW1-i75FMfMvOTQpEHJm8li4jB8KuDvIkaJUmglZEX5C2ZumLk-PpwBdjyOGuwIZIuJ4TKX5Ztmrkv49Hv165Q7X5x1wVS8d4/s1600/Osiris2.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGHWjjcYnHRfXtxPIWZAZ4hEFaCHRo-uTEXeBDo-TiS6HW1-i75FMfMvOTQpEHJm8li4jB8KuDvIkaJUmglZEX5C2ZumLk-PpwBdjyOGuwIZIuJ4TKX5Ztmrkv49Hv165Q7X5x1wVS8d4/s320/Osiris2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558135555954670754" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmQiTLbWiR0SZpk48phtmkz_sTXqn-VwpGogReZKsCsjMBBIsRWhFSWXx7VqSfHgZzIzerw2xL9e02uLfeJp7kyoRcdLlVp4J-KD-3r_629WkWoqTTvTURcQ4M4zQNByW3Y8v5IPT-1Gk/s1600/Osiris4.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmQiTLbWiR0SZpk48phtmkz_sTXqn-VwpGogReZKsCsjMBBIsRWhFSWXx7VqSfHgZzIzerw2xL9e02uLfeJp7kyoRcdLlVp4J-KD-3r_629WkWoqTTvTURcQ4M4zQNByW3Y8v5IPT-1Gk/s320/Osiris4.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558135554872102882" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGYog_soxtUuUe8QFWIPV6_v3PZg1P2Z5kRqI0nGxdsa1xtSnv1MyNeUoW7xdfhobiepzRvS01aeQNe-Z2nIWlVSNIhV7lAcJ3-vMLHfQiTFbvKfUy9DwlOkTrn7DseDu8Bxmb0Nz6NGE/s1600/Osiris3.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGYog_soxtUuUe8QFWIPV6_v3PZg1P2Z5kRqI0nGxdsa1xtSnv1MyNeUoW7xdfhobiepzRvS01aeQNe-Z2nIWlVSNIhV7lAcJ3-vMLHfQiTFbvKfUy9DwlOkTrn7DseDu8Bxmb0Nz6NGE/s320/Osiris3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5558135554990691522" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">I thought I might show you the "idea" stage in the cuff-making process. I'm definitely more excited to start Medusa! I'm always lucky if I can read my shorthand notes, but I've chosen greens, silver and black for Medusa, with both thread and bead snakes coming out from the center cab. I'm also planning on fading the background beading from black in the center to white at the edges. It's awfully ambitious! But I think it will look very cool.<br /></div>Lindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14122811731025796369noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159286806964934003.post-11696327357556213082010-12-03T17:43:00.004-05:002010-12-03T18:04:49.960-05:00Happy Holidays!Hello everyone! I know it's been awhile! What can I say? I've got the holiday lazies. I've also done a ton of weatherproofing around our old house, which has been a fun learning experience. It makes me feel very handy! I'm also attempting to seriously organize the dreaded back bedroom- the stuffed-to-the-gills room that is full of both mine and my husband's hobbies and collections of junk. It looks a little like a hoarder room, but I swear we aren't actually hoarders!<br /><br />So! On to the pictures!<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPMi10NrrykiP829DLA-XulHLdpTNP2ij0QGYbms60kNwwi-VcQ3sfPKHcEZd1nD2rUNErYHimEUTS1libkxFlrxIobpdeO95dHRO55b6kiy7-B5jxs-Cz0IXhIzU8FlsVbg0PnkTUBfw/s1600/Osiris.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 265px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPMi10NrrykiP829DLA-XulHLdpTNP2ij0QGYbms60kNwwi-VcQ3sfPKHcEZd1nD2rUNErYHimEUTS1libkxFlrxIobpdeO95dHRO55b6kiy7-B5jxs-Cz0IXhIzU8FlsVbg0PnkTUBfw/s320/Osiris.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5546591903113205506" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Osiris again!<br /><br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUncUavXXaoL9qVIKeLLRVJ1vRw4j61HdHQSzlVAYCG7xXUetBTpa_JHHzhOYvLscjRL_ycAT562Rs5F3D-LVoaY5IbsKwzOWRvNWi9SDMbAAmm0BeRGWMoYZoeVt-ZOiK-MJW2LKwbzk/s1600/NewHansel.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUncUavXXaoL9qVIKeLLRVJ1vRw4j61HdHQSzlVAYCG7xXUetBTpa_JHHzhOYvLscjRL_ycAT562Rs5F3D-LVoaY5IbsKwzOWRvNWi9SDMbAAmm0BeRGWMoYZoeVt-ZOiK-MJW2LKwbzk/s320/NewHansel.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5546591892091660002" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Because I obviously needed another project, I'm making myself a version of Hansel and Gretel because I loved it so much. It may very well be seen by the recipient, but since she's pretty super busy right now I doubt she will. I'm not good at keeping secrets. It's my mom. That's the secret! They're busy trying to get their new house built in time to move in by the 15th, so I think it's probably safe that I put this up. Also, I am bad at waiting to give people presents, so I'll probably finish it and give it to her for her birthday on the 7th. See? Foolproof. She'll never see it. (Mom, don't read this.) She requested blues and greens, and I have already changed out the little side shell beads with green stone beads. Maybe turquoise, I can't remember what they are! As you can tell, I'm incredibly official about the materials I use. A stone snob, if you will. The big cab in the middle is... mother of pearl?<span style="font-weight: bold;"> It's pretty, is what it is!</span> I never claimed to have any lapidary skills. Last week when we pulled out their winter coats we discovered that Henry's, at least, no longer fit. They were just babies last winter! So I decided to make some dog coats, because how hard could it be?? The hardest part was getting the dogs to agree to sit still for fittings.<br />
<br />
</div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlkhPII23VYXU1sRhyDYz3lb6Kj5AiPsvCg6zAzeVditgWdfoYb-E1qUnMw_zenQ81HGe1bIcQTzawOp-PN2VVMGvGg2PeStYYb1d_uQoJYTWCwGxtHUeN4ByV__noee1dkmLl5rQZ3HE/s1600/Henry.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5536867775467020818" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlkhPII23VYXU1sRhyDYz3lb6Kj5AiPsvCg6zAzeVditgWdfoYb-E1qUnMw_zenQ81HGe1bIcQTzawOp-PN2VVMGvGg2PeStYYb1d_uQoJYTWCwGxtHUeN4ByV__noee1dkmLl5rQZ3HE/s320/Henry.jpg" style="cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Henry's new coat is a fleece-lined camo hoodie. Camo isn't really our style, but I found this remnant which is super warm jacket material and I thought it would make him look extra manly. The lining is printed with dinosaurs! It does not get manlier than that!!!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">Zilla, who is named for Godzilla (of course!), got a dinosaur coat complete with stegosaurus back-spikes. The hole in the middle is where the leash attaches to her harness. I went back later and added a hole to Henry's too. She seems to like it! I sewed the lining to the outside (there's also a layer of flannel padding sandwiched in the middle) with some very turtle-shell-looking quilting; the bright yellow definitely adds to the turtle belly look.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">Here's Zilla expressing her dino-confidence on Henry.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
</div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb5TCksQP9aKq9hl8rz5IcGFIG9cxPoX07AhCkx1fIQudKp9QTNbnrx7_Xp1k8ZmVBbpjEx9oTauAGxprErn81uO5x6gPDKy9rraa5W3NORUctTWXbTtlmR7php3VowS2img0OqzxHY3c/s1600/Atlantis2.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5536867380811890450" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb5TCksQP9aKq9hl8rz5IcGFIG9cxPoX07AhCkx1fIQudKp9QTNbnrx7_Xp1k8ZmVBbpjEx9oTauAGxprErn81uO5x6gPDKy9rraa5W3NORUctTWXbTtlmR7php3VowS2img0OqzxHY3c/s320/Atlantis2.jpg" style="cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Atlantis<br />
<br />
</span></span>I was able to put in a little (very little) work on Atlantis- I added some thread embroidery<span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">. </span></span>I'm trying to decide if I'm going to continue on as planned, reversing and flipping the waves for the other side, or if I'm going to do something else. I've been thinking of maybe continuing the waves in the same direction but lower on the left side of the center bead, then adding some sort of thread embroidery to the upper left side- maybe storm clouds? I have to say that I've never done any embroidered lightning! And I do have some metallic silver thread...<br />
<br />
The only problem is that changing plans midway through the cuff could make it crash and burn. I guess there's a second problem, though, which is that I like to be able to change the plan as I see fit. And maybe I see fit to add lightning, <span style="font-style: italic;">hmm</span>??<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">I am incredibly excited to roll out my X-TREME photoshopping skills here. With this utterly perfect image, I'm attempting to show you what my original thought was for this cuff. If I'm being completely honest, the two sides will never ever match up perfectly, and I'm not even going to try to make them. But you can at least see the original idea! I like the look of the whole cuff laid flat; my hesitation is in picturing this worn- you'll only see the middle third or so, which I have cleverly illustrated here:<br />
<br />

Why am I even doing anything else?!? I could be making millions off of my 'shop skills!!! It's like the bracelet is already finished! Ta-da! I'm done!<br />

I wouldn't walk into that.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLF5OKzFvi_dOngk1IiVJ3theJsMQvjXDkbwN4xvgkhdIW4ugLaW3_gTxZ-AKtGSSFo7irh4wxTngEoLTXi9t1C2vN6p-4Mrv2263hZFyXhUPc7lZqYKo8cFPpV82i55hHC52ooQgVWpQ/s1600/IMG_1117.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 238px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLF5OKzFvi_dOngk1IiVJ3theJsMQvjXDkbwN4xvgkhdIW4ugLaW3_gTxZ-AKtGSSFo7irh4wxTngEoLTXi9t1C2vN6p-4Mrv2263hZFyXhUPc7lZqYKo8cFPpV82i55hHC52ooQgVWpQ/s320/IMG_1117.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5535396437695282050" border="0" /></a><br /><br /> I am actually planning to bead tonight! So I still haven't beaded. I'm still on sewing-obsessed hiatus, which has led me to register on Ebay solely for the purpose of bidding on one amazing lot of vintage patterns. Which I won. I am really, really trying not to get too excited, because I am afraid something will go wrong! Since I haven't been busy beading, I thought I would update on my possible victory (still trying not to get my hopes up, just in case!). It was a lot of <span style="font-style: italic;">126</span> - yes, you read that right- 126 patterns from the 40s through the 70s, all complete, and I won the lot for $25. Can you see why I am nervous? It seems too good to be true. Now the item description had lots of pictures and a full list of the patterns, which I've been looking up while trying not to get even more excited. I'm posting some of the included patterns so you can share in my joy!<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2EDSm1Cjt8e1TXfb6fSW3yYp4xEtm6OOfwlVtWuCMRPZU3yCEzqFVMTFIQpel14Dr9D_APOONhHKkXLbe0ilwBHibUzsTp_5qSWF4mlT6sxwzUWUrDsbug8aw1j8c3UEg5X97Wk5z74c/s1600/B6615.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2EDSm1Cjt8e1TXfb6fSW3yYp4xEtm6OOfwlVtWuCMRPZU3yCEzqFVMTFIQpel14Dr9D_APOONhHKkXLbe0ilwBHibUzsTp_5qSWF4mlT6sxwzUWUrDsbug8aw1j8c3UEg5X97Wk5z74c/s320/B6615.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5534301852858485442" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4bSIOiLntAvz4aNtnD62XyE228nMLRXtLh9kFxUkzVz1ywut-co_QTQnsx2otiLXYaGF32j8ucSU9Bqv_6Q7-IYeTuGuCtSs9XcgRRA6hCMO9XuLnn9ndHKDJmGMWaph1mVFnVEex0OE/s1600/4985-14.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 230px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4bSIOiLntAvz4aNtnD62XyE228nMLRXtLh9kFxUkzVz1ywut-co_QTQnsx2otiLXYaGF32j8ucSU9Bqv_6Q7-IYeTuGuCtSs9XcgRRA6hCMO9XuLnn9ndHKDJmGMWaph1mVFnVEex0OE/s320/4985-14.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5534301844236877522" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWhflVFurO8Uv0h-9kadUKgHLDBydLu1aDci9uuanxL3X_CjgqBFLNg2UErAC51z2tgB0GexZM4Li8unFh9XB6BRY6XPZfGWL5lcbEFUiwSRMsf5kN70eIvsDjFoMok-JEbAAGUdFjrl8/s1600/500px-Simplicity9039.jpeg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 212px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWhflVFurO8Uv0h-9kadUKgHLDBydLu1aDci9uuanxL3X_CjgqBFLNg2UErAC51z2tgB0GexZM4Li8unFh9XB6BRY6XPZfGWL5lcbEFUiwSRMsf5kN70eIvsDjFoMok-JEbAAGUdFjrl8/s320/500px-Simplicity9039.jpeg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5534301833443240930" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhczxfGB6RcDiUd1cYsIR__-1VT3oZSHYaxqb5r70Fb5XHe2bP3OwBa2mYEUjdosCl0ywRqeKe58yVZqAn0SRjGK5Iiry3vznwPdo9wPmQdFFs8ysyteFe1ehUqyQMsVTA95hi8lOyMG7Q/s1600/400px-McCalls_5920_60s.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 254px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhczxfGB6RcDiUd1cYsIR__-1VT3oZSHYaxqb5r70Fb5XHe2bP3OwBa2mYEUjdosCl0ywRqeKe58yVZqAn0SRjGK5Iiry3vznwPdo9wPmQdFFs8ysyteFe1ehUqyQMsVTA95hi8lOyMG7Q/s320/400px-McCalls_5920_60s.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5534301831487038146" border="0" /></a><br /> Now I will have to read all of those tutorials about re-sizing patterns to fit and doing different fitting adjustments... and then get some pattern paper... and some material and thread... On the plus side, I found some bags of zippers (still in their old packaging) at the thrift store, so notions-wise I'm pretty set. That was so corny!<br /><br />More realistically, for now I can gather the necessary materials, study sewing with vintage patterns and tailoring, practice with easier patterns and just generally try not to muck it up beyond wearability.Lindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14122811731025796369noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159286806964934003.post-23561762950932842852010-10-26T17:01:00.005-04:002010-10-26T17:34:00.835-04:00A Disorder Which Leaves Me With a Deficit of Attention<div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2gy1uZSc5Lq5oWIidGbWwNdte8kNzWTcehdXcb7NU_DBk6diHmBH-isnEHJIeBG72tBnF5wdqhLTUaoRqu6CLhqT3IPZy4FdULOe30NC9P2ZzK9jat9ftO3iBpYpmLxZnzInLWssVFDw/s1600/Osiris2.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2gy1uZSc5Lq5oWIidGbWwNdte8kNzWTcehdXcb7NU_DBk6diHmBH-isnEHJIeBG72tBnF5wdqhLTUaoRqu6CLhqT3IPZy4FdULOe30NC9P2ZzK9jat9ftO3iBpYpmLxZnzInLWssVFDw/s320/Osiris2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5532463590460732082" border="0" /></a><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></span><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Osiris cuff</span><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><br /></span></span>Okay, so here's the thing. Or more like one of the many things. Here's one of the things: I don't actually have attention-deficit disorder, but I do have a sort of hobby-related skip-around-y-ness. That was absolute gibberish. For the past few weeks, I've been in a sewing mode rather than a beading mode, so I've sorely neglected beading projects and this blog! Instead, I managed to pile all of my sewing patterns (new and vintage both) and a pretty good selection of material (also new and vintage) on the dinner table, where it still lingers untouched.<br /><br />Here is another thing: I really like to know all about what I'm doing before I jump into doing it. Like bead embroidery! I read and scoured blogs and photo sites and tutorials for <span style="font-style: italic;">forever</span> before I put needle to faux-suede. So the sewing projects have been more about sketching out ideas, cutting out patterns and then waffling on which fabric to use and just generally planning on sewing rather than actually sewing! It seems a little silly now that I say it.<br /><br />Anyhow! To continue with this theme of hobby-skippery, I was compelled to start two new cuffs instead of finishing <span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Atlantis</span>. Yikes. I have, thanks to our friend M, started on Osiris- I am sorry M; I had to start Osiris first- I blame Halloween, it's an Underworldly time. I was able to find a really awesome central bead for this- it's a scarab! Yayyyy!<br /><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPmVE8jFnxdKA1zHAIrL-VlNuPFtXaS-VkWXBPvF4lQQyH_FITUxfxZuLKhWSvFSy5o9San52oeMf0xwXNTMGUS7Ks6BxmL9QGtm8QByZ147djl0QePRf9AHPZIB6Dced7Zfc_4O9CEqI/s1600/Osiris.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPmVE8jFnxdKA1zHAIrL-VlNuPFtXaS-VkWXBPvF4lQQyH_FITUxfxZuLKhWSvFSy5o9San52oeMf0xwXNTMGUS7Ks6BxmL9QGtm8QByZ147djl0QePRf9AHPZIB6Dced7Zfc_4O9CEqI/s320/Osiris.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5532463585585390578" border="0" /></a><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Creepy scarab close-up<br /><br /></span></span>I plan to continue with the sort of pattern-heavy look of Osiris; lots of geometric pattern, lots of dark colors.<br /><br />A couple of nights after I began Osiris, I watched <span style="font-style: italic;">Fargo <span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-style: italic;"></span></span></span>with my husband and BAM! I made a pen-and-ink drawing of Vlad Tepes' castle at night, stars and all. I meant to take a picture of it, but in all of my shipping excitement, I sealed it all up before I remembered! And some of the gaps in the first image will be filled in eventually; they look pretty weird right now.<br /><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij70MyjHYEA5OnLw4d32FPrtXIzZ5X6zyvm5xEjgrvamoEnDLfSQRLOaF4a6UqobtnkqP3nLgfY8FBjAVjVC7EcrXiMwIMkMhPeV_15SdO9UACjYhsOITL70qdD4ikrzpZdDis6NA8KKI/s1600/Atlantis3.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij70MyjHYEA5OnLw4d32FPrtXIzZ5X6zyvm5xEjgrvamoEnDLfSQRLOaF4a6UqobtnkqP3nLgfY8FBjAVjVC7EcrXiMwIMkMhPeV_15SdO9UACjYhsOITL70qdD4ikrzpZdDis6NA8KKI/s320/Atlantis3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525399682335658386" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5gHDcyTjoFs5B_Mu3gEwPuZxYKxNnvZ0TOxdNo3HDvypaSPe8ZEK4aC2SAIR19smftUuAx9FW4KW3ofI7Fc7PYhpBsAsv5TbpHDBe3rnyDjgp835PSZ-Ne0Qc2RSl2ctsGeeJyH_Z8q4/s1600/Atlantis.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5gHDcyTjoFs5B_Mu3gEwPuZxYKxNnvZ0TOxdNo3HDvypaSPe8ZEK4aC2SAIR19smftUuAx9FW4KW3ofI7Fc7PYhpBsAsv5TbpHDBe3rnyDjgp835PSZ-Ne0Qc2RSl2ctsGeeJyH_Z8q4/s320/Atlantis.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525399672191535570" border="0" /></a>Lindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14122811731025796369noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159286806964934003.post-13209184984418474742010-09-30T10:52:00.002-04:002010-09-30T11:14:09.929-04:00The FeeJee Mermaid Meets the Sunken City<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv1sx8SFlBYpYdPjcvvJHnDthqrUFvfUp4r1DlX_XQMKCw0g90L8737s5kmIXgVOJqOa36TyEaKep9-gHFyiur9ZdVEBMNEtQE44ZuUjI-dpqjsOWFxHSguV282bYojw8D59hFy_ZNX5w/s1600/NewFeeJee2.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv1sx8SFlBYpYdPjcvvJHnDthqrUFvfUp4r1DlX_XQMKCw0g90L8737s5kmIXgVOJqOa36TyEaKep9-gHFyiur9ZdVEBMNEtQE44ZuUjI-dpqjsOWFxHSguV282bYojw8D59hFy_ZNX5w/s320/NewFeeJee2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5522721228890444450" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Alright! So here is all of the progress I've made on the FeeJee Mermaid cuff. I love the fish-scaley look of filled-in netting-work, but the chartreuse of the cab was not represented well enough in any of the rest of the beadwork. The solution, of course, was another trip to the bead store! I found this Kermit-green for the edging, which I hope will be enough to tie it all together. I think part of the problem is that I like the colors to be matchy, so I have a hard time leaving this color palette alone; it's too cool against the yellow in the stone.<br /><br />Also, I love a good excuse to visit the bead store.<br /><br /><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0cLPfCYP-xE157LNcJV5LAvv8lQOile5WzMuW5NHgitvXphxtluBSuZK-9F14fJQR2QUxjoo7WF9CBQPKThDpHTwlb9e4HJwtOtFmesvml9CTdSFKtzNN7xMRfnU6KFlp6xAwgVDAmhQ/s1600/Atlantis2.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 246px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0cLPfCYP-xE157LNcJV5LAvv8lQOile5WzMuW5NHgitvXphxtluBSuZK-9F14fJQR2QUxjoo7WF9CBQPKThDpHTwlb9e4HJwtOtFmesvml9CTdSFKtzNN7xMRfnU6KFlp6xAwgVDAmhQ/s320/Atlantis2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5522721225370911282" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">And here we have the start of a new cuff, <span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">Atlantis</span>. My stepmom requested a peacock-feather pendant, and I thought it was a great idea! I've decided to make an extra for the store. It will have fringe on the bottom when it's finished. Last night I handed it to Mr. MythicalAntiquity and said, "Can you tell what this is?" He gave it a long, slightly panic-stricken look before asking, "A cherry?"<br /><br />That's right! A cherry. To be fair, he followed that up with, "Like a black cherry?" I'm not sure who's to blame here. Maybe it doesn't look exceptionally peacocky yet, but I certainly don't see a cherry. I thought it was a hilarious guess.<br /></div>Lindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14122811731025796369noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159286806964934003.post-69699395474212508032010-08-31T12:33:00.002-04:002010-08-31T12:49:32.859-04:00I am still alive...I swear, I am still alive! We are all moved in and our tiny new house is busting at the seams. All of my fabric, art supplies, beads, sewing gear and crafty things are put away and ready to get to business; Etsy stuff is being sorted and readied for photographs, and beading will ensue tonight. Which means, with any luck, that I should be able to post pics tomorrow of some wrapped-up projects!!! I hope!<br /><br />Also, I've been considering subscribing to Netflix so that I can have some form of entertainment for the countless hours spent working on jewelry. I've tried listening to music, but sometimes that's just not enough. "Watching" (really just sort of looking up now and again) movies helps me spend more time happily beading, though it does mean it probably takes me longer to do the work. The issue is that I'm a multi-tasker. I don't like to do just one thing at a time, and I like to be doing something with my hands almost constantly. This means that I try to read books while cooking and eating, read books in bed, read books while beading (don't even try, doesn't work) and listen to music while painting and drawing. I really do read a lot! Aside from movies and music, though, are there any other ways you keep your mind and hands busy at the same time? I feel like artistic purists out there are going to say "just concentrate on what you're doing! The image above is the start of an experiment in raised beadwork, inspired by Lynn's (<a href="http://beadingheartart.blogspot.com/">BeadingHeartArt</a>) Tuscarora Tuesdays.<br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUMp51-HNUt8DXcnTOUO04lnbmncETiBAYC3cyrIWhTb4DDO8jud8BOapdS2IjU0TKJJ0AW8MlK0v3WAh8A0_16EEOz5QhcMHD7-J0de-Geit2WSTPps4YF36eDc9Bcx0QYrmDv1JmRIw/s1600/BeadShopping.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUMp51-HNUt8DXcnTOUO04lnbmncETiBAYC3cyrIWhTb4DDO8jud8BOapdS2IjU0TKJJ0AW8MlK0v3WAh8A0_16EEOz5QhcMHD7-J0de-Geit2WSTPps4YF36eDc9Bcx0QYrmDv1JmRIw/s320/BeadShopping.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504621625226403394" border="0" /></a><br />I also went bead shopping, where I clearly was stuck on cool colors, although that was entirely unintentional. The ropes of beads were a gift from my very sweet Mother-in-law. I've already started putting these beads to use as:<br /></div><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYGYErrwYNAMWofxxfSKkrT1geitHPKgEyhXoK8O3Egi2QfGeukR8Ztdm-UZcCEMmiUOea6zrmiA6Co86QfA47dVdNzNmNVzm4JP0eTABdgId5D7QC_y_eRtj7w7ejFx7YCXeH5CGDQww/s1600/Beadweaving.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 236px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYGYErrwYNAMWofxxfSKkrT1geitHPKgEyhXoK8O3Egi2QfGeukR8Ztdm-UZcCEMmiUOea6zrmiA6Co86QfA47dVdNzNmNVzm4JP0eTABdgId5D7QC_y_eRtj7w7ejFx7YCXeH5CGDQww/s320/Beadweaving.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504621616561427442" border="0" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">BAM! Beadweaving trial-and-error. I've never tried this before, either, and it's been fun- I'm definitely not doing it super-perfectly by-the-book, though. I just wanted to see if I enjoyed it by trying a simple project first! It's been very different from bead embroidery. I don't like following directions! I actually have a fine arts degree with an emphasis in printmaking, and that was the one thing that caused me so many problems. I'm not very process-minded or orderly and I hate prep-work. I don't even like to follow recipes exactly! So beadweaving may be a serious challenge.<br /><br />Also- the gradations in that photo are what the necklace really looks like, it's not the lighting. It goes from bluey-purple to pinky-purple.<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">NOW! Snow White's been giving me a bit of trouble, but it's been fun to do some embroidery. I love making little needle-woven flowers and leaves, so I just <span style="font-style: italic;">had</span> to add some! I'm afraid the rose does still look a little background-y to me, though I did something between threadpainting and satin stitch to puff it up. After deciding that wasn't enough, I cut it out to use it as an applique, used another piece of fabric between the rose and the cuff for a bit more height, and finally attached it using a blanket stitch. I'm planning to edge it in a baby blue (for the marriage-minded, maybe? A little something blue?). I'm not one-hundred-percent sure what I think about it yet. I don't think I'll know until it's done.<br /></div>Lindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14122811731025796369noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159286806964934003.post-49891015810720582202010-07-22T14:43:00.004-04:002010-07-22T14:58:38.419-04:00Dracula Meets His End<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc_NeNSGYBg_Y06JiTQywTFmduw-rRG97qp_cVHwZl3sMhN0PkpYBsqzZpGzgRbCBKnZtkTGXPKQUwmjER_Y7feAtfMF6A3hIo0mAwkOEb9ymhyyKwfVWUrcSZC49hUGpbUh3ZxNq4OQY/s1600/DraculaLast.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 226px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc_NeNSGYBg_Y06JiTQywTFmduw-rRG97qp_cVHwZl3sMhN0PkpYBsqzZpGzgRbCBKnZtkTGXPKQUwmjER_Y7feAtfMF6A3hIo0mAwkOEb9ymhyyKwfVWUrcSZC49hUGpbUh3ZxNq4OQY/s320/DraculaLast.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496803402670316530" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Dracula cuff<br /><span style="font-weight: bold;"> </span></span></span><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></span></span></span></span></span>That's right! I plan to start with an embroidered rose in the center and work my way out from that. I'd like to use a long-and-short stitch/ thread painting approach for the rose, but I think that a padded satin stitch would be nice, too. It's going to need to be a bit puffy- I'm a little worried about the height of the embroidery versus the height of the beadwork. I don't want to rose to feel too much like a background when it should be the center of attention!<br /><br />Really, no matter what I may say about which stitching techniques I want to employ it's only going to end up being a sort of free-handed made-up thing.
